It f-----g kills me, too. I finally found someone I connect with."
In a line that had to be a stab in the heart of Woods' wife Elin Nordegren, the grammar-challenged golfer wrote that Uchitel was "someone I have never found like this. Not even at home."
Getting even gooeyer, Woods wrote in his Nov. 9 missive that "you want someone to witness your life."
"I want you to lay next to me, lay on me or where ever you want to lay," he texted. "Why didn't we find each other years ago. We wouldn't be having this conversation."
Later on in the correspondence, Woods and Uchitel apparently had a spat.
"I don't know if this is going to work," he wrote. "I thought I was getting to know you, but it feels like I'm just another person who happens to be famous ... I don't know what person I was falling for so hard."
"I am so confused, because what my brain is saying and what my heart is saying are two different things. Is it the Rachel I know or the character?"
Woods, 33, wrapped by writing, "That's what's hard.

Over the past couple days, developers have rolled out two video games based on the Balloon Boy debacle. The first, and most popular, is called the Balloon Boy Game, and it is distributed by the web start-up Heyzap. The second is Balloon Boy Adventure, and it’s hosted on Newgrounds.com.

Both games are pretty straightforward. In the Balloon Boy Game, seen in the image at right, the user pilots young Falcon Heene across an urban cityscape. Falcon hangs haplessly onto the balloon; there is an option to shoot at seagulls, or grab free power-ups. In Balloon Boy Adventure, neither Falcon nor his father, Richard Heene are present – there’s only that big tinfoil muffin of a balloon.

Anecdotally, the games are enjoying a good deal of success. Buzz is certainly high – the Balloon Boy game has received much blog coverage and the attention of a smattering of newspapers. But for tech junkies, the most interesting part about the Balloon Boy games is that they exist at all.
Balloon Boy Halloween costume a hit for Saskatoon company......
Sasskatoon company that specializes in online sales of remote-control and model aircraft has created a Balloon Boy Halloween costume that's flying off their virtual shelves.

Bud Kays, managing director of Plantraco Microflight, came up with the idea in the aftermath of last week's news coverage of the infamous hoax in Colorado, when news outlets as big as CNN breathlessly followed a homemade helium balloon through the sky believing a six-year-old boy was trapped inside.

"I guess I kinda gotta take the blame [for the idea]," Kays said.

Plantraco has sold "dozens" since putting them up for sale on Tuesday, Kays said, and orders are coming in so fast that he's bringing all hands on deck to cope with the demand.

"I don't know where it's going to end up, but we may need to have a product-assembly bee over the weekend," he said.

The Plantraco website shows a young man with his head sticking out of a cardboard box that rests on his shoulders, carrying an inflated mylar balloon on a string. The marketing copy tells prospective customers that "you too can enjoy all the media attention you want with Plantraco's Balloon Boy Hoax Kit."

Plantraco has made actual flying airships and saucers for a number of years, Kays said, and he had a hunch while watching media coverage of the incident that the balloon was too light to carry six-year-old Falcon Heene.

That experience will be a big help in assembling the costumes, which go for $19.99. Plantraco regularly keeps thousands of of mylar bags in stock to make their products.

"It's right up our alley," Kays said.

BREAKING: Google Announces Search Deal With Twitter

From Mashable comes this story:

While we’re still digesting the news of Bing adding Twitter to its search engine, Google has some news of their own: they’re about to do the same exact thing.
The search giant has just announced that they have reached a deal with Twitter to include tweets in search results.

Top Ten Reasons Chicago Lost Olympic Vote

From USA Today:

We wuz robbed. Chicago was quickly bounced out of the running for the 2016 Olympics. Here are our top 10 theories about why the International Olympic Committee members voted against the Windy City:

10. Michael Jordan didn't come through with those free Air Jordans.

9. Voters from goat-eating nations feared that Cubs Billy Goat jinx thing.

8. Ticked off when Oprah kept moving through the Copenhagen buffet line too slowly.

7. Knew that learning to samba would be easier than the Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle.

6. Decided it was time to wipe that smug look off Bob Costas' face.

5. Before he retires, wanted to inspire one more base-kicking tantrum from Lou Piniella.

4. Several members once got stuck in an elevator with Mike Ditka, and they've never slept well since.

3. She was 61 and had brain cancer.

Atkins, who eventually came to call the crimes a sin, died late Thursday, according to the California Department of Corrections.

Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said that at the time of Atkins' death she had been in prison longer than any woman currently incarcerated in California.

Atkins' final chance at freedom was denied on Sept. 2. Terminally ill, she was brought to a parole board hearing on a gurney and slept through most of it, but managed to recite religious verse with the help of her husband, attorney James Whitehouse.

Atkins was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008, had a leg amputated and was given only a few months to live. She underwent brain surgery, and in her last months was paralyzed and had difficulty speaking.

She had been transferred to a skilled nursing facility at the California Central Women's Facility at Chowchilla exactly one year before she died.

Tate, the 26-year-old actress who appeared in the movie "Valley of the Dolls" and was the wife of famed director Roman Polanski, was one of seven people murdered in two Los Angeles homes during the Manson cult's bloody rampage in August 1969.

Atkins was the first of the convicted killers to die. Manson and three others involved in the murders — Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten and Charles "Tex" Watson — remain imprisoned under life sentences.

Atkins, who confessed from the witness stand during her trial, had apologized for her acts numerous times over the years. But 40 years after the murders, she learned that few had forgotten or forgiven what she and other members of the cult had done.

Debra Tate, the slain actress' younger sister, told the parole commissioners Sept. 2 that she "will pray for (Atkins') soul when she draws her last breath, but until then I think she should remain in this controlled situation." Debra Tate noted that she would have a 40-year-old nephew if her sister had lived.

Atkins' prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi, had spoken out earlier in favor of release, saying the mercy requested was "minuscule" because Atkins was on her deathbed.

Atkins and her co-defendants were originally sentenced to death but their sentences were reduced to life in prison when capital punishment was briefly outlawed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1970s.

During the sensational 10-month trial, Atkins, Manson and co-defendants Krenwinkel and Van Houten maintained their innocence. But once they were convicted, the so-called "Manson girls" confessed in graphic detail.

They tried to absolve Manson, the ex-convict who had gathered a "family" of dropouts and runaways to a ranch outside Los Angeles, where he cast himself as the Messiah and led them in an aberrant lifestyle fueled by drugs and communal sex.

Watson had a separate trial and was convicted.

One night in August 1969, Manson dispatched Atkins and others to a wealthy residential section of Los Angeles, telling them, as they recalled, to "do something witchy."

They went to the home of Tate and her husband. He was not home, but Tate, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant, and four others were killed. "Pigs" was scrawled on a door in blood.

The next night, a wealthy grocer and his wife were found stabbed to death in their home across town. "Helter Skelter" was written in blood on the refrigerator.

"I was stoned, man, stoned on acid," Atkins testified during the trial's penalty phase.

"I don't know how many times I stabbed (Tate) and I don't know why I stabbed her," she said. "She kept begging and pleading and begging and pleading and I got sick of listening to it, so I stabbed her."

She said she felt "no guilt for what I've done. It was right then and I still believe it was right." Asked how it could be right to kill, she replied in a dreamy voice, "How can it not be right when it's done with love?"

The matronly, gray-haired Atkins who appeared before a parole board in 2000 cut a far different figure than that of the cocky young defendant some 30 years earlier.

"I don't have to just make amends to the victims and families," she said softly. "I have to make amends to society. I sinned against God and everything this country stands for." She said she had found redemption in Christianity.

The last words she spoke in public at the September hearing were to say in unison with her husband: "My God is an amazing God."

She spent 37 years in the California Institution for Women at Frontera. When she fell ill, she was moved to a medical unit at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla. She died there.

Susan Denise Atkins was born May 7, 1948, in the Los Angeles suburb of San Gabriel. Her mother was stricken with cancer and died when she was 15. Her father, reportedly an alcoholic, sent her and her brother to live with relatives.

While still in her teens, she ran away to San Francisco where she wound up dancing in a topless bar and using drugs. She moved into a commune in the Haight Ashbury district and it was there that she met Manson.

He gave her a cult name, Sadie Mae Glutz, and, when she became pregnant by a "family" member, he helped deliver the baby boy, naming it Zezozoze Zadfrack. His whereabouts are unknown.

The Manson slayings remained unsolved for three months, until Atkins confessed to a cellmate following her arrest on an unrelated charge. Police found Manson and other cult members living in a ranch commune in Death Valley, outside Los Angeles.

Besides Tate, their other victims were celebrity hairdresser Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, filmmaker Voityck Frykowski and Steven Parent, a friend of Tate's caretaker; and grocery owners Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Atkins also was convicted with Manson of still another murder, of musician Gary Hinman, in July 1969.

Atkins married twice while in prison. Her first husband, Donald Lee Laisure, purported to be an eccentric Texas millionaire. They quickly divorced. Whitehouse, her second husband, is a Harvard Law School graduate and had recently served as one of her attorneys.

___

EDITOR'S NOTE — Special Correspondent Linda Deutsch, the AP's trial reporter for 40 years, covered the Manson Family trial.

Patrick Swayze Dead at 57

LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.

Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.

He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making "The Beast" because they would have taken the edge off his performance. He acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that.

"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters in early 2009. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."

A three-time Golden Globe nominee, Swayze became a star with his performance as the misunderstood bad-boy Johnny Castle in "Dirty Dancing." As the son of a choreographer who began his career in musical theater, he seemed a natural to play the role.

A coming-of-age romance starring Jennifer Grey as an idealistic young woman on vacation with her family and Swayze as the Catskills resort's sexy (and much older) dance instructor, the film made great use of both his grace on his feet and his muscular physique.

It became an international phenomenon in the summer of 1987, spawning albums, an Oscar-winning hit song in "(I've Had) the Time of My Life," stage productions and a sequel, 2004's "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," in which he made a cameo.

Swayze performed and co-wrote a song on the soundtrack, the ballad "She's Like the Wind," inspired by his wife, Lisa Niemi. The film also gave him the chance to utter the now-classic line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

And it allowed him to poke fun at himself on a "Saturday Night Live" episode, in which he played a wannabe Chippendales dancer alongside the corpulent — and frighteningly shirtless — Chris Farley.

A major crowdpleaser, the film drew only mixed reviews from critics, though Vincent Canby wrote in The New York Times, "Given the limitations of his role, that of a poor but handsome sex-object abused by the rich women at Kellerman's Mountain House, Mr. Swayze is also good. ... He's at his best — as is the movie — when he's dancing."

Swayze followed that up with the 1989 action flick "Road House," in which he played a bouncer at a rowdy bar. But it was his performance in 1990's "Ghost" that showed his vulnerable, sensitive side. He starred as a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee (Demi Moore) — with great frustration and longing — through a psychic played by Whoopi Goldberg.

Swayze said at the time that he fought for the role of Sam Wheat (director Jerry Zucker wanted Kevin Kline) but once he went in for an audition and read six scenes, he got it.

Why did he want the part so badly? "It made me cry four or five times," he said of Bruce Joel Rubin's Oscar-winning script in an AP interview.

"Ghost" provided yet another indelible musical moment: Swayze and Moore sensually molding pottery together to the strains of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody." It also earned a best-picture nomination and a supporting-actress Oscar for Goldberg, who said she wouldn't have won if it weren't for Swayze.

"When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick," Goldberg said in March 2008 on the ABC daytime talk show "The View."

Swayze himself earned three Golden Globe nominations, for "Dirty Dancing," "Ghost" and 1995's "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar," which further allowed him to toy with his masculine image. The role called for him to play a drag queen on a cross-country road trip alongside Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo.

His heartthrob status almost kept him from being considered for the role of Vida Boheme.

"I couldn't get seen on it because everyone viewed me as terminally heterosexually masculine-macho," he told the AP then. But he transformed himself so completely that when his screen test was sent to Steven Spielberg, whose Amblin pictures produced "To Wong Foo," Spielberg didn't recognize him.

Among his earlier films, Swayze was part of the star-studded lineup of up-and-comers in Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 adaptation of S.E. Hinton's novel "The Outsiders," alongside Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez and Diane Lane. Swayze played Darrel "Dary" Curtis, the oldest of three wayward brothers — and essentially the father figure — in a poor family in small-town Oklahoma.

Other '80s films included "Red Dawn," "Grandview U.S.A." (for which he also provided choreography) and "Youngblood," once more with Lowe, as Canadian hockey teammates.

In the '90s, he made such eclectic films as "Point Break" (1991), in which he played the leader of a band of bank-robbing surfers, and the family Western "Tall Tale" (1995), in which he starred as Pecos Bill. He appeared on the cover of People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991, but his career tapered off toward the end of the 1990s, when he also had stay in rehab for alcohol abuse. In 2001, he appeared in the cult favorite "Donnie Darko," and in 2003 he returned to the New York stage with "Chicago"; 2006 found him in the musical "Guys and Dolls" in London.

Swayze was born in 1952 in Houston, the son of Jesse Swayze and choreographer Patsy Swayze, whose films include "Urban Cowboy."

He played football but also was drawn to dance and theater, performing with the Feld, Joffrey and Harkness Ballets and appearing on Broadway as Danny Zuko in "Grease." But he turned to acting in 1978 after a series of injuries.

Within a couple years of moving to Los Angeles, he made his debut in the roller-disco movie "Skatetown, U.S.A." The eclectic cast included Scott Baio, Flip Wilson, Maureen McCormack and Billy Barty.

Swayze had a couple of movies in the works when his diagnosis was announced, including the drama "Powder Blue," starring Jessica Biel, Forest Whitaker and his younger brother, Don, which was scheduled for release this year.

Off-screen, he was an avid conservationist who was moved by his time in Africa to shine a light on "man's greed and absolute unwillingness to operate according to Mother Nature's laws," he told the AP in 2004.

Swayze was married since 1975 to Niemi, a fellow dancer who took lessons with his mother; they met when he was 19 and she was 15. A licensed pilot, Niemi would fly her husband from Los Angeles to Northern California for treatment at Stanford University Medical Center, People magazine reported in a cover story.

September 11 Tributes

Never forget.

9/11 Tributes from 2009.
8 years past, and a lifetime of remembrance to come.

Phil Collins Says Goodbye to Drumming

<img style="float:left; A serious spine injury has forced him to walk away from drumming – the very thing that made him famous.

"I've got a condition that means I can't play anymore,” he tells London’s Mirror. “After playing drums for 50 years, I've had to stop. Obviously I'm very sad about it. My vertebrae has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing. I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful."

However, even though drumming is over for Collins, he reassures his fans that he hasn’t lost his voice.

"I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through,” he said. “But don't worry, I can still sing."

A friend agrees that health comes before music saying, "He is devastated as drumming is everything to him. It's how he made his name and it set him on the road to superstardom. But drumming has been getting more and more painful and he decided enough was enough and called it a day. He has to put his health first."

Hefner: My Wife Cheated On Me

Yesterday we learned that Hugh Hefner and his wife of 20 years Kimberly Conrad are divorcing.

Now TMZ is reporting that the Hef was cheated on. Believe it or not, he told TMZ that he was "faithful" during the time he and his wife were together, but says she had strayed "early in the relationship."

Though Hef admits to knowing who his wife had an affair with, he contests that her infidelity is not the reason he chose to call it quits.

He says he made the decision to end his marriage to Conrad because of the $5 million lawsuit she filed against him last month relating to the sale of a house they owned together.

When questioned about why he stayed married during the 11 years they have been separated Hef told TMZ, "At the time of the separation, I was happy to get a divorce ... Monopoly City Streets, which launches Wednesday, allows users to compete in a live, worldwide version of the popular game, creating the biggest Monopoly tournament ever played.
http://www.monopolycitystreets.com/

It’s an ambitious venture that we’ll confess to being fairly excited about: players will literally be able to buy any street in the world, and compete with every other player on the “board”. You start with 3 million Monopoly dollars, and can build not only hotels and houses but also football stadiums, castles and skyscrapers, reports the UK’s Guardian. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the findings have not been publicly released.

Forensic tests found the powerful anesthetic propofol in Jackson's system along with two sedatives, the official says.

Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's personal physician, is the target of a manslaughter probe headed by Los Angeles police.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

HOUSTON (AP) — A search warrant affidavit says Michael Jackson had lethal levels of the powerful anesthetic propofol in his system when he died.

The document unsealed Monday allowed officials to raid the Houston offices and storage facility of Dr. Conrad Murray last month.

It says Murray told a Los Angeles police officer he administered several drugs to Jackson the day he died, including 25 milligrams of the sedative, which he gave intravenously.

The affidavit says Murray never ordered, purchased or received any of the propofol but that the doctor found about eight bottles of it in Jackson's home along with numerous other vials and pills.

Jackson Died from Lethal Levels of Propofol

Michael Jackson had lethal levels of Propofol in his system when he died, this according to a search warrant affidavit filed in Houston.

Click To Read It Here

Dr. Murray reportedly told cops 10 minutes after administering Propofol ... he "left Jackson's side to go to the restroom and relieve himself. He was then on the cell phone for 47 minutes with 3 separate calls, from 11:18 to 12:05. Most people don't know ahead of time that they will be arrested. So the safest thing to do is to wear your Obama shirt every single day. That way, when you are charged with a felony, at least everybody will know you are an Obama Felon. Not just some apathetic, apolitical felon - you are a felon and your guy is Barack Obama.

Of course as a felon, you won't get to vote for him next time. These are the percentage of Twitter accounts that have never posted a single tweet. They may either be registered simply to hold a username for later use, or be experimental accounts started up but never used.

2. Nearly 94% of all Twitter accounts have less than 100 followers. In a finding perhaps consistent with the newness of the tool as well as the fact that many people may currently have an account simply to start experimenting with the tool, Sysomos found the vast majority of Twitter users have an extremely low followership.

3. March and April of 2009 were the tipping point for Twitter. During these months, Ashton Kutcher launched his quest to get to 1 million followers faster than CNN, Oprah started using Twitter, and the steady flow of new users to the site continued. For many, it offered a safer and easier way to get their feet wet with social media, 140 characters at a time.

4. 150 followers is the magic number. In a particularly interesting data point from the survey, Sysomos found that Twitter users tended to "follow back" all their followers up until about 150 connections. Then the reciprocation rate fell off dramatically, which seems to indicate that this number may be the crossover point where people shift from using Twitter for more personal use to using it more for "lifecasting" their thoughts and actions to a community of people who they feel varying levels of connection to.

5. A small minority creates most of the activity. A steep curve of a small minority of actively engaged content creators generating most of the activity on a site is common among social networks, but it is steeper and more pronounced on Twitter. 5% of users account for 75% of all activity, and 10% of users account for 86%. This seems to suggest that the site has managed to engage a mass audience beyond those who typically engage with social media.

6. Half of all Twitter users are not "active." If you take a general description of being "active" on Twitter to mean that you have posted a tweet at some point in the last 7 days (1 week), then the survey learned that 50.4% of all Twitter users fit this category. If you remove the 21% from point #1, this leaves about 30% of users who have an account and have tweeted before, but happen to be inactive now.

7. Tuesday is the most active Twitter day. One of the most useful data points from the report is that it clears up the common question of which day of the week is the best day to tweet something. Sysomos found that Tuesday stood out as the most popular day for tweets and retweets, followed by Wednesday and then Friday.

8. APIs have been the key to Twitter's growth & utility. In terms of tools that people are using for Twitter, Sysomos found that more than half (55%) of all Twitter users use something other than Twitter.com to tweet, search and connect with others. This may, in part, be due to Twitter's notorious reputation of failing/crashing, but also is a credit to all the third party applications that have been built on top of Twitter and do their fair share to bring new users to the service.

9. English still dominates Twitter. When exploring Russia as part of a class that I am teaching this summer at Georgetown, one of the barriers we learned about was the difficulty of fitting some Russian language words into just 140 characters. Twitter is, however, extremely English-friendly. As the Sysomos report found, the top four countries on Twitter are all English speaking (US, UK, Canada, Australia). Of these, US makes up 62% of all Twitter users, followed by UK with nearly 8% and Canada and Australia with 5.7% and 2.8% respectively. The largest non-English speaking country on Twitter? Brazil with 2%.IMB_TwitterSysomos2

10. Twitter is being led by the social media geeks. This particular finding should likely come as no surprise, but 15% of Twitter users who follow more than 2000 people identify themselves as social media marketers. These individuals are more likely to post updates every day (sometimes more than once per day) and also use Twitter more actively for direct communication.

Jennifer Aniston Rejected Again!

Bradley Cooper has a new enemy: Brad Pitt's ex-wife.

Jennifer Aniston "honestly feels screwed over" after her date with the "Hangover" star didn't lead to a second, reports US Weekly.

"She wanted to turn her date with Cooper into something," a source told the magazine of duo's dinner date in New York on June 18.

A few weeks later, Cooper was out with Renee Zellweger, but apparently Aniston "doesn't see what Renee has that she doesn't," the insider tells US.

Perhaps it is what Zellweger doesn't have that Cooper likes says: ie, no drama.

"She just does her thing, has her friends and her life and is cool. The babies were delivered by Caesarean section just before 8 a.m. at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, hospital officials said.

"I'd just like to thank the Lord," said Jonathan Gosselin, 27, the babies' father. "It was truly an amazing thing."

Mr. Gosselin joined doctors and nurses at a late afternoon news conference, where they said the mother was in good condition and the babies in satisfactory condition. All but one of the infants were still on ventilators late Monday afternoon.

"Their excellent condition is a testament to Kate Gosselin's resolve, and the expert care of our obstetrical staff," said Dr. Dennis Mujsce, medical director of the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.

Sextuplets are rare. Hospital officials said that as of March 15, only 138 documented sets had been born worldwide.

Gosselin and her husband live in Wyomissing, a suburb of Reading, and are also the parents of 3-year-old twins. Kate Gosselin was admitted to the hospital in early March.

Jonathan Gosselin said his wife is tired but seems to be doing well.

"We met with Joe Paterno today, so she was uplifted by that," he said.

More than 50 doctors, nurses and other specialists were involved in the delivery, including color-coded teams that took each baby as it was delivered and cared for it.

"The delivery room was quite busy," Mujsce said.

The sextuplets were delivered in a span of about three minutes. Alexis Faith, weighing 2 pounds, 11.5 ounces, was born first at 7:51 a.m. She was followed by Hannah Joy, 2 pounds, 11 ounces; Aaden Jonathan, 2 pounds 7.5 ounces; Collin Thomas, 3 pounds 0.5 ounces; Leah Hope, 2 pounds 14.8 ounces, and Joel Kevin, 2 pounds 9.7 ounces.

Mr. Gosselin, who wore six hospital wristbands to the news conference, said the family's church, Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, in Sinking Spring, had offered to pay to expand the family's home. Various corporations have also made donations, he said.

"Our church is behind us 100 percent. We have everything material taken care of," said Gosselin, an information technologies director for a petroleum equipment company, near Reading.

MORE PHOTOS....

N. Korea Makes Nuclear Threat

SEOUL — Communist North Korea denounced impending joint military exercises by South Korea and the United States, and said it would "wipe them out" with nuclear weapons if they threatened it, its KCNA news agency said on Sunday.

South Korean and U.S. forces start computer simulation and communication exercises on Monday. They come in the wake of rare conciliatory moves by Pyongyang, which this month released two jailed U.S. journalists and a detained South Korean worker.

On Sunday, KCNA said reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong-il had met the leader of the South's powerful Hyundai Group, a major investor in the North -- a move that may comfort investors worried about increased tensions.

North Korea regularly denounces joint exercises as a preparation for invasion and nuclear war.

"Should the U.S. imperialists and the Lee Myung-bak group threaten the DPRK (North Korea) with nukes, it will retaliate against them with nukes," KCNA quoted a military official as saying. Lee Myung-bak is South Korea's president.

Impoverished North Korea has been angered by Lee's policy of ending unconditional handouts -- once equal to about 5 percent of the North's estimated $17 billion a year economy -- and instead linking aid to progress Pyongyang makes in ending the security threat it poses to the region.

"It is the iron will and resolute stand of the Korean People's Army to go into action anytime to mercilessly wipe out the aggressors," the northern military official said.

The United States stations about 28,500 troops in South Korea to support its own 670,000 soldiers. The North has about 1.2 million troops but analysts say they are ill-equipped and would be no match for U.S. and South Korean forces.

The two Koreas are technically still at war since no peace treaty was signed after their 1950-53 conflict.

KIM MEETS HYUNDAI BOSS

Kim's meeting with Hyundai Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun, one of the few South Korean executives to have direct dealings with the North Korean leader, is his first major meeting with a prominent figure from the South in nearly two years.

Kim, 67 and thought to be recovering from illness, also hosted Bill Clinton on August 4 when the former U.S. president won the release of two American journalists jailed in the North.

Hyun went to North Korea last week to win the release of the Hyundai worker. She also sought to reopen a mountain resort in North Korea run by a Hyundai affiliate that was shut down a year ago after a North Korean soldier shot dead a South Korean tourist who had wandered into a military area.

The resort and a joint factory park run by Hyundai have been vital sources of legitimate foreign currency for North Korea. News of a possible meeting with Kim and Hyun had boosted shares in firms that have dealings with the North.

The North's broken economy has been hit by U.N. sanctions imposed after a long-range rocket launch in April, widely seen as a disguised missile test, and a nuclear test in May.

The sanctions were aimed at cutting off the North's trade in arms, another vital source of hard currency.

Ambassador Philip Goldberg, the U.S. coordinator for implementation of the U.N. resolutions, is expected to travel to Asia this week to strengthen the measures.

Last week, he said efforts to inspect North Korean vessels for illegal weapons and curb financial transactions by entities suspected of weapons proliferation were winning wide backing.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://celebritybusts.blogspot.com/2009/08/n-korea-makes-nuclear-threat.html' title='N. The latest stop - a town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colorado.

"These struggles have always boiled down to a contest between hope and fear," the president said Saturday.

That was true when social security was born. That was true when Medicare was created. And it' s true in this debate today, reports CBS News correspondent Martha Teichner.

For the third time in five days, Mr. Obama used the presidential bully pulpit on behalf of what he's now calling health insurance reform in an effort to seize back control of the agenda from an angry opposition.

Here's a question: Do they even know what's in the bills currently being considered by Congress?

Do you?

"For all the chatter and yelling and shouting and the noise, what you need to know is this: If you don't have health insurance, you will finally have quality affordable options once we pass reform," Mr. Obama said last week at a town hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Right now, though, reform is a moving target, still changing. There is no such thing as an Obama bill.

The president presented a wish list to Congress, where five different committees - three in the House and two in the Senate - are in various stages of drafting bills, with some big differences but a lot of similarities.

"All agree that all Americans should be covered. They all agree that you cannot be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition," said Ralph Neas, CEO of the National Coalition on Health Care, a non-partisan alliance of groups working for health care reform.

"The all agree that if you leave a job, you don't lose health care coverage. They all agree if you have health care coverage, you can't be denied it once you get sick."

"And they would mandate that all but the smallest employers would have to provide insurance for their workers," adds Jonathan Oberlander, a professor of health policy and management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

"The second thing that they would do is create a new marketplace, where the uninsured and small businesses could go to get insurance. It would be called a health insurance exchange and if you didn't have insurance from your employer, you would get subsidies from the government and you go to this exchange and you could choose what insurance plan you would have." Oberlander said.

And each of the proposals would expand Medicaid. Where there's disagreement is over how all of this will be paid … and over the so-called "public option," a government-run health care plan that would be available alongside private plans.

The public option is by no means a done deal, but tell that to the people doing all the yelling at town hall meetings last week.

"I don't want this country turning into Russia, turning into a socialist country," a woman said at a town hall organized by Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, a Democrat. Specter denied that's where the country was heading.

"The reason they oppose the public option is they think it's a stalking horse. They think the real plan of President Obama, or those who want health care reform, is to have single-payer, totally government-run health care reform," Neas said. "It will fail if people think it is tilted to kill the private insurance industry."

And now to address some of the health care reform's hottest hot-button issues, such as the reference to a "death panel" on Sarah Palin's Facebook page.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with downs syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's death panel so his bureaucrats can decide whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil," the message read.

The reality?

"You would have a greater chance of being killed by a Death Star in one of the Star Wars movies than you would being killed by a government-run death panel, which is to say they don't exist," Oberlander said.

Another hot-button issue - taxpayer-funded abortions.

"On the contrary, there is language in the House Energy and Commerce bill that says federal monies cannot be used for abortion," Neas said.

And what about those television ads aimed at the elderly, claiming that seniors may lose their own doctors?

"That is absolutely false," Oberlander said. "In fact, the opposite is true. This legislation is absolutely good for seniors."

"There is now, every year, $2.5 trillion spent on health care. The United States spends twice as much as the average of all the industrialized nations in the world. One half of all the foreclosures, one half of all the bankruptcies [in the country] are because people can't pay their medical bills and it's because of the broken system we have," Neas said.

The American public agrees.

"Our most recent poll found that more than eight out of 10 Americans think the U.S. health care system either needs fundamental change or needs to be completely rebuilt," said Sarah Dutton, the head of surveys at CBS News. "Even 70 percent of Republicans feel that way."

A poll at the end of July showed nearly two-thirds of Americans supporting some sort of public option - 66 percent exactly, although fewer Republicans, 49 percent, than Democrats, 85 percent.

Where Americans are most ambivalent is over the cost of health care reform.

"We can't spend any more money. We gotta stop," one angry opponent said in Mississippi.

That's the third hot-button issue.

"You can't tell us how you're going to pay for this," one person questioned Mr. Obama in Montana.

"Look, you're absolutely right that I can't cover another 46 million people for free," the president replied. "Two-thirds of the money we can obtain just from eliminating waste and inefficiencies."

But the Congressional Budget Office has put a trillion-dollar price tag on health care reform over the next 10 years and calculates it will add $239 billion to the federal deficit.

And what happens if health care reform fails?

"The Urban Institute estimates that as many as 66 million Americans could be without health insurance in 2019," Oberlander said.

"There is now, every year, $2.5 trillion spent on health care. This $2.5 trillion will soon be $3.5 trillion, $5 trillion. Our economy cannot sustain it now," Neas said.

In the face of these estimates, President Obama has often repeated the message that "for all the scare tactics out there, what is truly scary is if we do nothing."

A contest between hope and fear is what Mr. Obama has called the fight for health care reform. At week's end, with the decibel level still rising, President Obama's battle cry had the unmistakable sound of his presidential campaign.

"I need your help," the president said in Colorado. When we wrote our 2008 year-end app wrap-up, we had just surpassed the 10,000 app milestone. In early June 2009, the store reached 50,000 apps. At present, we are looking at a staggering 300 new applications being released every single day. How does the average iPhone user find the gems in this deluge?

Unfortunately, the process is entirely overwhelming for the average iPhone user. The bulk of consumers use iTunes? Top and front page listings. Since placement on the top lists is derived entirely from unit sales, there is a disturbing skew towards the $.99 applications. This not only discourages big developers from putting high budgets and serious resources towards development of really useful applications and games, but also does a disservice to us, as iPhone users. If all we see are ninety-nine cent gimmicks and toys, how will we realize the true potential of our device? Apple attempts to offset this with editor?s picks, but this simply isn?t enough to make sense of the App Store.

There are new third party services and tools coming onto the scene to help show how to best navigate the App Store. AppVee has been doing in-depth reviews of applications since the launch of the App Store and will soon celebrate our one-year anniversary with nearly 1,000 video reviews of the top applications. We?re often asked if we are overwhelmed with the number of applications currently released and the number we are capable of covering. The answer is no. 90% of apps currently out there are of no use to anyone. There are a massive number of clones, one-off gimmicks, volumes of books and reference material, and a never-ending supply of uninteresting games. So, we try to act as a filter for consumers, directing them to what is worth their time and money.

The following is a round-up of our top picks so far this year:

Most practical

1. Slacker Radio

A fantastic alternative to Pandora, which carries a larger catalog and offers Premium accounts that offers something we?ve always loathed about Pandora ? unlimited song skips. (Similar: Pandora, WunderRadio, Last.fm)

2. Hey Where Are You

A beautifully simple application that takes advantage of Push Notification, by letting users ask and answer the question ?Hey, Where Are You?? (Similar: Loopt)

Ahmadinejad Locks 3 Women In Cabinet

Ahmadinejad plans female ministers in Iran cabinet

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday he would propose at least three female ministers in his cabinet following the disputed election, an unprecedented move in the conservative Islamic state.

The hardline nationalist also said the West must be held to account for stoking unrest in Iran after the June 12 presidential vote, as the third mass trial of demonstrators accused of trying to overthrow clerical rule began.

The election and its aftermath have plunged Iran into its biggest internal crisis since the 1979 Islamic revolution, exposing deepening divisions within its ruling elite and also further straining relations with the West.

Ahmadinejad has until August 19 to present a cabinet to parliament for approval but may get a rough ride from the conservatives who dominate the assembly, as well as from his moderate foes who see his next government as illegitimate.

He did not say who would be in charge of the Oil Ministry of the world's fifth-biggest crude exporter, but a news agency reported the chief nuclear negotiator had been nominated for the foreign minister's post.

Like Ahmadinejad, Saeed Jalili has taken an uncompromising stance in Iran's dispute with the West over its nuclear program, which the United States suspects is aimed at making bombs. Iranian officials say it is for peaceful power purposes.

Ahmadinejad's surprise announcement on state television that he would nominate several female ministers may be an attempt to shore up support among women. The president's moderate opponents campaigned on the need to enhance women's position in Iran.

Activists working for more female rights say women face institutionalized discrimination in Iran, for example in legislation relating to divorce, child custody and inheritance, and have accused Ahmadinejad of neglecting such issues.

It would be the first time a woman would hold a ministerial position in Iran since its 1979 Islamic revolution, even though a woman in charge of environmental issues was one of several vice presidents in Ahmadinejad's outgoing cabinet -- a relatively junior government position.

One female minister under the U.S.-backed shah, Farrokhroo Parsa, was executed after the revolution.

"With the 10th presidential election, we have entered a new era ... conditions changed completely and the government will see major changes," Ahmadinejad said.

He named two of his proposed female ministers: conservative lawmaker Fatemeh Ajorlou as social welfare minister and former member of parliament Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi, a university professor and gynaecologist, as health minister.

"At least one more will be added," Ahmadinejad said.

Madonna's Biceps Photo and Story

<img style="float:left; I had the money and I gave it to them. It was a secret between Michael and me,” the Independent quoted him as saying.

He revealed that the money came from recording residuals, and was earmarked by Jackson for the purchase of what was to be his “dream home” in Las Vegas.

He further revealed that he was in negotiations for the home when Jackson died.

“He said, ‘Don’t tell anyone about this money’. But when he passed away I told them I had this money, and I gave it to them,” he recalled.

Branca and McClain, the temporary administrators of Jackson’s estate, are presently said to be completing several deals that they expect will generate “tens of millions of dollars of revenues”.
